October 2019 Learning Session

Twice a year, Built for Zero communities come together to celebrate your wins, dig into your biggest challenges, and update your path to progress.

October 21-23, 2019 – Denver, Colorado

OVERVIEW

The Built for Zero Collaborative brings communities participating in Built for Zero together every four months for an in-person peer Learning Session. The October in-person session will build on the content and learning from the previous sessions and the support offered during the Action Cycles.

What to expect:

  • Focused support from the Built for Zero team and federal partners from HUD, USICH, and the VA
  • Taking action to evaluate and improve the local leadership structures and capacity necessary to end veteran and chronic homelessness
  • Continue learning Quality Improvement tools and methods to take action and solve problems
  • Improved data and performance management tools to help track progress and inform decision making
  • System design and improvement support
  • Opportunities for cross-community learning and problem solving

We convene every 4-5 months at our national Learning Sessions. These are opportunities to bring your team together, set new goals, learn from your friends across the country, and reinvigorate your work to end homelessness. We like to strike a balance between team planning time, face-time with the Built for Zero coaching team, and inter-community learning, all sprinkled with fun and energy. Come prepared to do some of your best thinking.

Welcome to the Built for Zero Collaborative!

If you are a Built for Zero Community, and this will be your community’s first Learning Session, we are asking you to join us for an orientation day on the front end – more details coming soon. If you’re a new team member from an existing community, you’re welcome to join us as well! Contact dmoskowitz@community.solutions for more information.

FAQ

The Learning Session will be held in Denver, Colorado, from Monday, October 21 to Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Hilton Denver City Center. More information on lodging and booking can be found here.

We recommend bringing 4-8 team members from your community, with 8 being a firm cap. Teams with fewer than four attendees often lack critical perspective, which can stall discussion.

Teams with more than eight members often have trouble maintaining focus when planning together as a team. Due to space limitations, eight will be a firm cap for teams at this Learning Session. If you’d like help planning whom to bring, please reach out to your coach!

In terms of who should attend, start with your team lead and your data lead. For descriptions of those roles, click here. To fill out the rest of your team, remember that the main theme for this Learning Session will be community case conferencing, so consider filling out your team with some additional folks who attend community case conferencing meetings.

Finally, it’s helpful for there to be some continuity between Learning Sessions. A Learning Session can be a good way to engage new team members, but you should also have strong representation from team members who have attended in the past, especially your team lead and data lead.

If you’d like some additional guidance deciding who should attend, your coach is happy to help!
